Enhanced DBS Check
We process enhanced DBS checks online for both individuals and organisations across England and Wales.
What is an Enhanced DBS Check?
The enhanced DBS check is the highest level required for positions that involve caring for, training, supervising or sole charge of children or vulnerable adults. The check includes details of all convictions on record, whether spent or unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (ROA). This means that even minor convictions are included on the enhanced disclosure. This is the criminal history that will be disclosed on an enhanced DBS check:
- Spent convictions
- Unspent convictions
- Cautions
- Warnings
- Reprimands
- Checks against ISA barred lists
In addition to this information, all enhanced checks involve an extra level of check with your local police force records in addition to checks with the Police National Computer (PNC). Plus, your details will be checked against the government department lists held by the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health, where appropriate.

Who Needs an Enhanced DBS Check?
Individuals may only apply for an enhanced DBS online check if their employer has requested one under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (ROA). An employer can only request an enhanced DBS check if the individual is already employed by them, or an offer of employment has been made and is pending the receipt of a DBS check. Enhanced DBS checks can only be requested if the individual is set to train, supervise or be in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults. People working in teaching or in the medical professional field are often required to apply for an enhanced check online.

How do you Complete an Enhanced DBS Check?
When you apply for an Enhanced DBS online with us, it will be processed via our secure IDSP-accredited online platform, designed for employers, putting security and integrity first. This system is otherwise only available to high volume users.
Thanks to this system, we are able to provide the results within days instead of weeks. Before you begin to apply for an Enhanced DBS check, please gather the following original documents and information required.
This includes:
- A valid passport or driving licence with your date of birth
- National insurance number
- Two of the following documents: A utility bill, bank statement, mortgage or credit card statement with full home address.
You can opt to add online ID verification to your DBS check if you have a British/Irish passport, so that original documents do not need to be provided to your ID verifier. You will however continue to require an ID verifier to make the hiring decision.
