DBS Checks for MOT Testers

From the 8th of January 2024, DBS checks for MOT testers are developing. The new rules must be followed to stay compliant.

When must you submit a basic DBS check?

If you are an MOT tester, you are required to submit an application for a basic DBS check in the following cases:

  • You are a new tester
  • You are an existing tester who is increasing your test group (A or B)
  • You are coming back to testing after receiving a 28-day disciplinary or cessation of 2 or 5 years
  • You are returning to testing after being suspended or lapsed (being suspended for not completing your annual assessment in the required time frame is included in this)

Important note: The DBS check has to be actioned a maximum of 3 months before the demonstration test. Otherwise, it will not be valid.

What documentation is needed to start?

If you are unsure what documents you will need before applying, check out this blog that highlights everything that is required. Once we have all the required information, our turnaround time is 5 to 8 days.

Why choose us?

We are a leading pre-employment screening and vetting agency that has over 30 years of experience in the industry. Our proprietary system has been designed to make the application process easy, which helps to remove any confusion; we are one of the only agencies to offer an ISO27001 accredited system to individuals, as typically they are only for high-volume use. After your check has been submitted, our team, which consists of professional individuals, make it their mission to provide you with a DBS check certificate as soon as possible.

We are a recognised umbrella body (Online DBS Checks is a division of Eurocom C.I.) for the Disclosure and Barring Service. This means that we are authorised to handle all confidential information that is required for DBS checks. Due to the sensitive nature of this data, we have rigorous systems in place to ensure your information does not fall into the wrong hands. As a result, you can get the certificate you need quickly while having peace of mind that your data is protected.

After you have received your DBS certificate

When you have your DBS certificate, you can let DVSA know by providing the government agency with a consent check code (you can do this when you fill out the MOT tester demonstration test form). If the check comes back not clear or you didn’t receive the code, you have to make a copy of the certificate and send it via post along with your MOT testing service user ID.
